Purge Calculator

Calculate optimal purge volumes for multi-color prints. See exactly how much filament each tool change wastes, then tune your matrix to save material.

Filament Colors

Add the colors in your print. The calculator auto-generates a purge matrix based on how much contrast each transition needs.

Purge Matrix

Each cell shows the purge volume (mm3) for that color transition. Darker-to-lighter transitions need more purging. Edit any cell to override.

How purge volumes work

When a multi-material printer switches filament, leftover color remains in the hotend. The printer extrudes (purges) filament into a waste tower until the new color runs clean. Dark-to-light transitions need more purging because dark pigments are harder to flush. Light-to-dark transitions need less because the dark filament masks any residue quickly. Most slicers default to a flat purge volume for every transition, which wastes filament on easy changes and under-purges difficult ones. A tuned matrix saves 20-40% on purge waste without sacrificing color accuracy.
